About the Program
The YWCAmakers Program’s Makers Business Skills Program is a cohort style program that features 9 weeks of hybrid business skills workshops, networking opportunities, and featured selling space at the YWCA Thrift Shop in Greensburg, PA.
Makers Business Skills Program
The business skill courses and featured selling space are exclusive benefits for members of the Maker Cohorts. Cohort members can expect to increase their entrepreneurial skills to supplement or even replace their income.
Cohort members commit to the 9 week program including:
- Weekly business skills workshops (3 hr/per week) both online and in person.
- 30 days consignment at the YWCA Thrift Shop
- Weekly “Meet the Maker” hours during your featured consignment period.
Business skills workshops will be help in the evenings. The courses will be both online and in person Wednesdays 6-9 pm, September 2, 2020- October 28, 2020.

9 Week Hybrid Business Skills Curriculum
|Week 1: Orientation*||Introduction to the YWCAmakers Program. |
Mission statement brainstorming & mock business plan.
|Week 2: Business Start Up||The basics of starting your own business from a legal stand point. Mistakes to avoid when getting started.|
|Week 3: Marketing, Branding, and Social Media||An introduction to marketing and branding concepts, as well as an overview of using social media for business.|
|Week 4: Pricing & Selling||Models for setting your product prices. Understanding the importance of price continuity and being competitive for your selling environment.|
|Week 5: In Person Selling & Display*||How to create a visually appealing display and engage with customers in a face-to-face sales setting.|
|Week 6: Selling Online||Learn about selling online and engaging with customers digitally.|
|Week 7: Accounting & Bookkeeping||Learn the basics of tracking, recording, and responding to the financial aspects of your business.|
|Week 8: Finding Capital and Financing your Business||Learn about funding options and opportunities for entrepreneurs and Makers.|
|Week 9: Wrap Up & Graduation*||Review and new business plan, business pitches and celebration!|

Product Sales at YWCA Thrift Shop
You’ll have the opportunity to be a featured Maker of the Month during your time in the program at the YWCA Thrift Shop in downtown Greensburg. Your work will be prominently displayed in our designated area for Makers.
Product sales will be on a consignment basis. We will work with you to display and market your products when you are featured.
